Now we've got two single player modes to focus on before we get to the miscellaneous achievements.

The first mode we're going to explore is Be A Pro. (which going forward will be called BAP)

To get started, choose Be A Pro from the main menu under single player. This will take you into the mode, and you'll see your character standing on the front porch overlooking some outdoor ice rinks. When you get through this first initial cutscene you'll have to set up your player and make some decisions to start your career. Nothing here really matters in terms of how you progress (because we're going to be making the game really stupid easy anyway. So pick whatever you like. For my be a pro, I created a massive 6 foot 9 inch, 290 lbs monster and chose POWER as my archetype (because why not?). Once you do this you'll be asked where you want to start your career. You'll have three options, and only one of them matters for achievements. You'll want to select the middle option which is START IN EUROPE. It has the red CHL badge logo (don't confuse this with the CHL Memorial Cup, we don't need that one this year). Once you select start in Europe, it'll ask what team you play for. You can pick whatever you want, but for me, I chose HC OCELARI TRINEC.

On the next step you'll see two options - start career and game settings. Before we start, jump into the game settings so we can make some adjustments.

First, go into be a pro settings. Make sure your difficulty is set to ROOKIE, and you can set the period length to whatever you want. For now, I'd recommend 6 minutes, but later on we'll adjust this to 20 minutes to get more goal scoring opportunities. Make sure Be A Pro Simming Penalty is set to off (we'll be simming a lot later). Also turn injuries off so you don't have to deal with getting hurt. Next, go back to the settings menu and go to RULES. Turn ICING off, OFFSIDES off. Now go back again and this time go to GAMEPLAY SLIDERS. This is where we're going to make the game silly. It'll take you a few minutes to go through all these settings, but you'll want to turn all the CPU sliders to the worst side, and turn all the HUMAN sliders to the best side. Not every slider is left or right, sometimes it's backwards. For example, turn FATIGUE EFFECT CPU all the way to the right, and human all the way to the left. For the next box under FATIGUE RECOVERY turn CPU to the left and human to the right. Under skating speed, all the CPU sliders go left, and human goes right. Shooting is the same (CPU left, human right). Passing is the same, goalies is the same. Once you've cranked up your superhuman abilities and made the computers really bad at hockey, you're ready to start. Go back and choose START CAREER.

The most annoying thing about this game mode is the amount of "conversations" with coaches, teammates, and reporters. There isn't any way that I've found in multiple years of playing this that allows you to turn those off or skip them. So when I get to them, I just spam cn_A until they're over and then move on.

Now, the first part of this mode is going to be playing through the CHL playoffs. There are 4 rounds of playoffs. Some rounds use aggregate scoring, others don't. My recommendation to you would be to use the "SIM GAME" option from the hub. When you press this and choose sim game, you'll be taken to a simulation screen. You can press cn_A to fast forward to the end of the first period, then again to the end of the second period. Then you can use your judgment on whether or not to sim the third period or play the third period. If you want to jump into the game because your team is behind or the score is close, press cn_start. Your goal is going to be to score a bunch of goals and win every game in this CHL playoffs segment. Once you get through the playoffs with a championship, you'll earn another achievement:

Then you'll be taken to the NHL Draft and be drafted, and you'll finally be with your NHL team. As long as you did well enough in the CHL playoffs, you'll be drafted high and you'll have a chance to make an immediate impact in the NHL. This is where things get fun.

The first thing we need to get through is the NHL pre-season, because nobody cares about the pre-season. I chose to sim through the entire pre-season, and by the end of it my coach conversations were telling me to do better, but I still made it to the NHL to start the regular season. I have heard from other friends that if you do poorly enough in the pre-season, you can be demoted to the AHL (which would obviously set us back a bit), so it may be worth your while to play some of these pre-season games (at least enough to keep your stats up and your coach happy).

Once you get to the NHL regular season, we're going to start playing some games. But first, go into the settings, and under BE A PRO SETTINGS, change your period length back to 20 minutes. There is one other setting you can change listed in this menu as "be a pro settings". The default is AUTHENTIC, but you can change it to CLASSIC if you want more play time. The only thing to be aware of with this setting is if you take a penalty, you're going to sit in the box for multiple minutes of real time. If you can play without taking many penalties, CLASSIC will give you way more time on ice to score goals and assists. You just need to press cn_B when you go to the bench to call your teammates over to swap with you and get back on the ice. Personally, I chose to play on AUTHENTIC settings, which allowed me to sim until my next ice time. I still managed quite a bit of ice time each game because I wouldn't come off the ice until my team scored a goal and I was forced to the bench at the ensuing faceoff.

Now get through the necessary conversations and get into your first regular season game. Choose PLAY GAME.

You'll just want to go absolutely crazy scoring goals here. Assists are fine too, but goals should be the focus. By the end of the first game, I had 16 goals and 4 assists.

Once you score your first goal, you'll unlock another achievement:

During this game, I would also try and unlock two miscellaneous achievements (because I found it very easy to do in this game mode). You'll want to score a goal from a manual one-timer. To trigger a manual one timer you want to hold cn_LT+cn_RSd. Your player will be on the ice with his stick cocked back ready to fire a shot as soon as it arrives. Performing that button action will also let your teammate with the puck know to pass it (it works like calling for a pass). The best way to time this is to skate up the ice on the side of the ice opposite your shooting hand. If you're right handed, skate up the left side without the puck, if you're left handed, skate up the right side. Make sure your teammate is carrying the puck up the ice on the opposite side. When you get to roughly the top of the faceoff circles (closest to center ice) perform the button combination (hold cn_LT+cn_RSd) and call for a pass. Keep holding this. When the pass is on its way, take the RS and push it straight up to the 12 o' clock position. Timing this correctly will cause your player to fire the puck off the pass on a hard slap shot. If you get this right and score a goal, you'll unlock another achievement:

The second achievement to get is by getting an assist from a saucer pass. Skate up the ice with the puck on either the right or left side. Your teammate should follow you and be on the opposite side of the ice. Use cn_RB to perform a saucer pass. If your teammate shoots and scores, you'll get the achievement. But, even if your teammate doesn't shoot and score, but still keeps control of the puck, call for a pass and score yourself and the achievement should still unlock. As long as your team maintains possession and scores a goal, with at least one pass somewhere in the middle performed as a manual saucer pass, this should still unlock (it did for me).

Doing this correctly will unlock your next achievement:

Somewhere after your first few games and scoring lots of goals, check out your player progression. You'll need to unlock an X-FACTOR ability and equip it to your player. For me it unlocked after game 2 as I only needed goals and assists, but it may vary for you depending on what archetype and player class you chose. You can check in on what requirements you need to meet this in the player development area.

Once you equip your X factor, you'll unlock the next achievement:

Continue playing games and scoring goals and assists. What you're working toward is a single season franchise record of some type. The easiest ones for me were goals, assists, and points. I ended up completing the goals record first, but points and assists came shortly after. I was able to complete this after about my 5th game. Once you break any one of these single season franchise records, you'll unlock your next achievement:

Now all you'll want to do is keep playing through your first season making sure that you're the greatest player in the history of the world in your rookie season. You should easily be able to rack up 500+ points if you're playing every game, but if you choose to sim, depending on the start you gave yourself from playing a few games getting the first few achievements, you'll likely still end up with 200+ points on the year. You also need your team to continue winning so that they can make the playoffs. You have two goals to complete that MUST be completed in your first season. One, win the Calder Trophy. This is the rookie of the year trophy. You need to be the best first year player. Shouldn't be too hard. Second, you need to win the Stanley Cup (NHL Championship). Neither one of these are too difficult based on the difficulty we have all of this set to. But again, you want to make sure you're leading the league in points at the end of the year, and you want to make sure your team is in contention to make the playoffs if you've simmed games. You'll also probably want to manually sim games in the playoffs to make sure your team wins each round. You can sim the first two periods and just jump into the third period. You'll likely also end up with the Conn Smythe trophy for best player in the playoffs as well. All of these things combined will give you a huge boost to your legacy. But as long as you get the Calder and Stanley in your first season, you'll end up with another achievement:

If for some reason you missed one of the two requirements here, see if you can go into the "LOAD" menu and revert back to a previous backup save rather than starting over.

Now we've arrived at the most boring, lengthy grind of the entire game. You need to amass 2,858 career points and surpass the NHL career points record currently held by Wayne Gretzky. This will take some time. Along the way, you also need to build your legacy by winning championships and individual awards.

Once you have 2,858 career points, you'll unlock:

The last achievement requires you to reach gold legacy status in your career. If you've won numerous Stanley Cups, multiple hart trophies (MVP awards), Rookie of the year, and set many career records, you'll be in pretty good shape. There is a status bar on the main hub of be a pro with a gold star next to it. You want this bar to be filled up before you retire. Once you've gotten your record points achievement, you can likely sim the majority of the season each year and only play a few games ensuring you lead the league in goals and points every year for individual awards.

Once you retire with gold legacy status, you'll unlock your last be a pro specific achievement:

Now we'll head over to Franchise mode for some more offline achievements.
